Best Championship Programme 2016-17

Winner – Queens Park Rangers

The layout is easy on the eye, keen and unfussy. The main player interview is a well used seven pages with plenty of reading, and a column by a fanzine editor (‘Loft For Words’) makes you want to read it for the title alone. ‘Rangers Rewind’ is a rewarding retro section that runs for ten pages, which include ‘Marsh’s Memories’ (from Rodney), the standout feature and ‘Where Are They Now?’ catching up with a player from the past. ‘Fine Margins’ takes us back to a particular victory, whilst ‘Through the Ages’ looks at the club’s youngest and oldest debut makers. The section concludes with ‘From the Bush to Bratislava’, cup games from the 1976/77 season recalled game by game with accompanying press cuttings. It’s a cracking series of pages.

The visitors get six pages, although only cursory detail on the current squad, but the ‘We’ve Got History’ page, a write up of a past clash, shows the issue’s strength is in looking back. ‘Talking Tactics’ does though get the opinion of a media man in the opposition. More history later on as ‘The Custodians’ remembers a keeper from the club’s past, whilst back in the current day ‘#QPRWOL’ is a good social media page. There are also columns from another supporter and a journalist. Plenty of reading and some really cracking retro content. All this and a price reduction too!

B5, perfect-bound, £3. Standout article/feature ‘Forever The Underdog’ – The 1966/67 Division Two championship campaign recalled match by match through reproduction of programme pages.
